Swedish House Mafia at the Nobel Prize Ceremony

The seminal Swedish House Mafia track “One (Your Name)” has officially entered the world of high art. A sweeping orchestral version premiered at the 2025 Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm. The performance took place in the iconic Blue Hall of Stockholm City Hall. Instead of pounding kicks and lasers, a full symphony filled the marble hall. For a song born at the peak of the EDM boom, it felt like a defining moment for the genre.

An orchestral “One”

Acclaimed Swedish composer Jacob Mühlrad crafted the arrangement. Organizers asked him to create a program about “bridging worlds.” Mühlrad is known for blending contemporary classical music with modern influences. So he treated “One” like a film score. He turned the synth motif into a dramatic string theme and spread the rhythm across brass, percussion and woodwinds. The famous melody emerged slowly. Then it swelled into a powerful climax that nodded to the original drop.

Rather than copying the club version, he rebuilt the track. The tension that leads to the festival drop became orchestral crescendos. As a result, the piece gained a new emotional arc for the formal setting. Subtle percussion hinted at the song’s four-on-the-floor roots. Meanwhile, the strings carried the main motif with grandeur. For fans, it was both nostalgic and fresh.

Light, symbolism and legacy

Alexander Wessely, a longtime creative partner of Swedish House Mafia, designed a custom light installation. His theme, “the evolution of light,” filled the hall with shifting patterns. It echoed the trio’s visual style without turning the event into a rave.

The 2025 banquet also carried a message of resilience. The Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. In that context, “One,” a symbol of unity-driven festival culture, gained extra weight. Clearly, dance music can stand beside classical repertoire at global moments.

For Swedish House Mafia, this version proves that “One” is more than a club anthem. Fifteen years after its release, the melody still crosses genres and audiences. For the EDM community, hearing it at the Nobel ceremony shows that electronic music has earned its place in history.
