It’s been exactly 10 years since the release of “Animals,” the track by Martin Garrix, the world’s number one DJ for a whopping four times.
The track, dropped on June 17, 2013, quickly skyrocketed to the top of the Beatport Top 100 and marked a turning point in the explosion of electronic music, previously known simply as EDM. “Animals” unleashed the straight and distorted bassline, transporting fans to a completely different musical dimension that had previously been rich only in melodies. Thanks to this record, a new music genre emerged, known as BigRoom, which provided fertile ground for the young Garrix and paved the way for his success.
A decade after the release of “Animals,” the BigRoom genre has almost vanished, confined to a relatively insignificant niche. But as we like to say, music doesn’t come and go; it evolves and changes. Martin Garrix, with his “Animals,” quickly became a global superstar. Today, he boasts dozens of tracks, a signature sound, and an impressive record of being voted as the world’s number one DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100 four times.
